SSC CGL Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Staff Selection Commission will announced a vacancy notification of various post like as Officer, Assistant, Inspector central excise, Income Tax Inspector, Inspector Examiner, Sub – Inspector, Assistant Audit Officer, Auditor, Junior Accountant, Accountant, Tax Assistant, Compiler in SSC CGLE (Staff Selection Commission Exam). Staff Selection Commission has released notification for CGL. Tier 1st exam will be held in Aug. 2016. As per news SSC has not made any change in Syllabus.

Syllabus of SSC CGL

  • The time of tier 1st Examination is 2 hours ( for visually handicapped person 2 hours 40 minutes)
  • Stage 1st exam contain only one paper that will be same for all categories of vacancy and will be schedule in one session.
  • Here is Negative marking 0/25 marks for every wrong question.
  • The question paper will be in Hindi & English both languages.

Tier 1st Exam Syllabus

General Intelligence & Reasoning: It would contain of both verbal and non verbal type question. This components may included  questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, Analysis, judgement,  Decision making, Visual memories, Discrimination, Observation, Relationship Concepts, Arithmetical Question etc.

Coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc, The topics are, Semantic Analogy, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series, Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & de-coding, Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization.

Venn Diagrams, Drawing inferences, Punched hole/pattern –folding & unfolding, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Indexing, Address matching, Date & city matching, Classification of centre codes/roll numbers, Small & Capital letters/numbers coding, decoding and classification, Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence.



General Awareness:

Questions in this fundamental will be aimed at testing the applicant’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be schemed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day investigation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any well educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries mainly pertaining History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Policy & Scientific Research.

Quantitative Aptitude:

Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons , Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree and Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart. Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.

English Comprehension:

Applicants’ capacity to understand correct English, his basic comprehension and writing capacity, etc. would be tested. Questions will be based on spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling/detecting miss-spelt words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences.

 Selection Schedule

Applicants will be selected on the basis of high marks in written exam and personal interview. The Examination will be held in three tiers as indicated below

  • Tier 1st Written Exam (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier 2nd Written Exam (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier 3rd Computer Skill Test, Document Verification.

Accountancy, Business Organization, Management, Micro-economics and Indian economics, Business Statistics, Law, Company Law, Cost Accounting, Auditing and Income Tax.


Algebra, Matrices, Statistics, Analytic Geometry, Differential Equation, Differential and Integral Calculus.


Probability Distributions, Binomial, Poisson, Normal, Exponential, Compilation, Classification,
